Window Tinting in Colorado Springs, Will it Affect My View?

Window film or window tinting is the same thing. People just use it interchangeably. We are ask will it affect my view? Will it be to dark? It does depend on your choice but it shouldn't. Think of placing a pair of sunglasses over your eyes? That is the affect of window tinting. There are different choices but generally the choices are light, medium and dark. The samples show you the difference and you can visually see this on your window. Window tinting in Colorado Springs is something all of us should consider. First, the UV rays do most of the damage. But heat can damage things as well.

Window film should not affect your view in Colorado Springs. Why would we want to when this is such a great place too live.

2009 Stimulus Package increases the tax credit for the installation of solar window films in Colorado Springs

We have some great news that we couldn't wait to share with you!

The International Window Film Association (IWFA) has learned that the 2009 Stimulus Package increases the tax credit for the installation of solar window films and window tints that meet certain performance criteria in 2009 to a maximum of $1,500 or 30% of the product cost. The tax credit will be extended to homeowners.

Please note, only certain films will qualify for the tax credit. Geography and solar performance are the criteria that determine which window films or window tints will qualify. Budget Blinds is working with manufacturer to identify these films and we have determined the specific window films or window tinting. Please call our office or email so that we can discuss this in greater detail.

Additionally, we will post the necessary forms that homeowners will need to receive the tax credit within the next few days. To qualify for the credit, the homeowner will need to provide:

Copy of Film Invoice
Window Film Manufacturer's Qualification Statement
IRS Form
Here’s the official language from the Government:

“Under section 25C of the Internal Revenue Code (I.R.C.) homeowners can receive up to 30% credit on the costs of ‘qualified energy efficiency improvements’; including solar control window film on windows, doors, and skylight …up to $1,500 maximum.”
Example of how the credit works:

If you install $4,000 worth of qualifying solar film on a home during 2009 and the product cost of the film was 30% ($1,200) then the homeowner could receive a $360 credit on their income taxes for tax year 2009 (30% of product cost of $1,200, or $360).

Wood Shutters keep you comfortable in Colorado Springs

The last few days or week has been really nice. Great to live in the Rockies while the East Coast is getting pounded by snow and cold temperatures. Yesterday, as the temperature rose to 60+ degrees I checked the temperature of my house during the afternoon. The solar radiant heat passing thru the windows to my floor with wood shutters open and not covering my windows reached 115 F on my carpet and other furnishings. When the wood shutters louvers were closed the temperature was at 70 F, the temperature of the house thermostat. When the wood shutter louvers were left open for any length of time the house temperature began to rise up to 75 F.

Wood shutters in Colorado Springs is a great choice not only for insulation but for their aesthetics. Remember fading of furnishings can occur by heat as well as UV rays.

Honeycomb Shades and Blinds are Great Insulators in Colorado Srpings

Honeycomb shades or blinds add insulation to your window. There are many different types of Honeycomb shades which revolve around the cellular size. Cellular Honeycomb Shades get their name from the honeycomb cell construction, which is designed to trap air inside each cell, giving it outstanding insulating properties. The cellular size is that width or distance that makes up the cell. That is why honeycomb shades or blinds is a great insulator. Just like we use double pane windows to provide great insulation for heat and cold the same concept is employed in the way honeycombs provide insulation.

Since there are many different manufacturers of honeycombs I have never seen a Underwriters Laboratory study of the R Value of the shades. Generally, the R value is between 2.5 and 4 but some can be more or less.

The construction of the honeycomb fabric has much to do with the R Value. You can have a single cell honeycomb that has a higher R Value then a double cell Honeycomb shade.

As a consumer, ask the questions about R Values. Most manufactures provide the R Value about their Honeycomb blinds. But, remember that the product is being ranked by the manufacturer with no standard to my knowledge in the industry.

But remember you would like not only great insulation but a great look.

Wood Blinds Colorado Springs

Wood Blinds Colorado Springs

Wood Blinds are a great way to enhance any room. Many people are concerned about wood blinds in Colorado Springs with regards to fading, splitting or cracking. It is a reasonable concern but one that you can eliminate by choosing high quality wood blinds.

Our manufacturer which produces our Signature Series selects the product from North American Hardwood. It isn’t imported from overseas. Also, our manufacturer controls the process from start to finish. They don’t buy the material from another source. They are the source. Therefore they select the tree, own and operate the kiln drying process, and monitor the product right thru to completion.

The kiln drying is so important to wood blinds or any wood product like wood shutters. If that is done correctly you won’t have problems. If the wood is not dried correctly you will have cracking and splitting of your wood blinds. Have you ever seen a piece of wood at a lumber yard that is bowed or twisted. That problem is generally associated with the kiln drying process.

So ask these questions. Where does the wood come from? What type of wood? How does your manufacturer kiln dry the wood? And how do you handle an issue if my wood blinds does crack or split?

I hope this helps understanding some of the questions people have about wood blinds in Colorado Springs.

If you have any questions please contact us in one of the following ways.

Wood Shutters Add Value to Homes in Colorado Springs

Plantation shutters, or interior shutters, are the classic wood shutters you’ve seen in those majestic homes throughout the United States. Plantation shutters are the classic window treatment, offering good looks, long life, good insulating properties and more.

Shutters are not inexpensive. They are considered some of the more expensive window treatments. There are many less expensive window treatments options available. Budget Blinds has a style for every point of view so when considering shutters or any other window treatment we can help. Shutters look good with just about any décor and even add to a home’s curb appeal. A house for sale with plantation shutters will usually list them as a feature so they add value to a home. Home appraisers will consider these when evaluating a home during an appraisal.

There are several different plantation shutters for you to choose from. You can find less expensive plantation shutters made from vinyl, or faux wood (composite). The cost savings between real wood shutters and vinyl shutters is approximately 25% and about 20% for composite wood. Plantation wood shutters also come stained or painted. An additional benefit of vinyl or faux wood plantation shutters is that they won’t warp, crack or split in hot or humid areas, like kitchens and bathrooms.

Shutters are highly versatile. They can block light very effectively or let in plenty of sunshine just by opening or closing the louvers, which range in size from 1 7/8” to 4 ½”. Wood shutters can be made in just about any shape and size. So, they can cover nearly all situations. There are limitations for faux wood shutters and vinyl wood shutters. Shutters offer some of the highest ratings when considering insulation.

Approximately 80% of all shutters sold in the United States are white, ivory, or off-white tones.

Real wood shutters usually come in premium hardwoods like a Basswood. One of the manufacturers that we represent feels shutters are like fine furniture. When you see the craftsmanship you will agree. And just like fine furniture, wood shutters make a statement about the home and the homeowners – that they care about their home and want only the best. If you are going to purchase real wood shutters, you may want to consider the stained variety as opposed to the painted ones. Why waste all that beautiful wood if you are going to paint over it? Then you may as well save money by purchasing the vinyl or faux wood shutters.
